Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. CME Article 5: Congenital Anomalies in Multiple Pregnancy: A Literature Review -- Explain the prevalence and trend of congenital anomalies in multiple pregnancy; describe the importance of zygosity in prevalence and concordance in multiple pregnancy; and describe the effect of assisted reproductive therapies on the risk of congenital anomalies.
  2. CME Article 6: Cell-Free DNA Screening for Single-Gene Disorders -- Describe how laboratories have expanded cell-free DNA screening beyond common aneuploidy screening. Explain the differences between disorders caused by aneuploidy, copy number variants, and single-gene changes. Identify patient populations that may be at increased risk for single-gene disorders and the limitations of cell-free DNA screening for the disorders. Discuss when to refer a patient to a genetic counselor or Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist if a patient requests cell-free DNA screening for a single-gene disorder.
